If they answer a question but then immediately switch topics, it sends a message that they’re just filling time. Not asking follow-up questions can signal a lack of real interest in their partner’s thoughts and experiences. The conversation feels one-sided, like they’re just waiting for their turn to talk.

They give vague or off-topic responses

When someone shares something important, they expect a real answer. But a partner who isn’t listening often responds with something generic or completely unrelated to what was just said.

Vague responses can stem from various underlying reasons, including their communication style or deeper issues. They might say “that’s interesting” or “yeah, maybe” without addressing the actual point. Sometimes they change the subject entirely, as if the conversation never happened.
