Sometimes the clearest sign about a friendship is not something a friend does. It is something they never do. TikTok creator Lailah, who posts as @ulovelailahakim, says a friend she once considered a sister never once engaged with her posts, and looking back, she now believes that silence said everything.

The Friend Who Never Liked a Single Post

Lailah explains that this goes back to when she was new to social media and barely posted, maybe once every five months. Even with so few posts, this close friend never liked or commented on any of them. At the time, she brushed it off.

The second sign was harder to ignore. Whenever Lailah shared good news about her life, the friend went quiet. She says the friend would leave her private story whenever positive updates appeared, and seemed to vanish right when a supportive word would have meant the most.

Lailah is clear that she has grown since then. She posts much more now and says she does not expect friends to like everything she shares. But she still believes a friend who ignores your posts entirely, especially your wins, may not be on your side. “So, if you ever have a friend like that, they’re probably a secret hater,” she says. “That’s probably the first sign, I’m telling you.”

Viewers Had Strong Feelings Both Ways

The video passed about 299,000 views, and a lot of viewers recognized the pattern immediately. “And they’re always liking, commenting, and reposting others’ posts but never yours,” one wrote. Another responded with a simple “Yes I HATE that!!!!”

One commenter described an even more pointed version, where the friend gives no like and no comment, and also ignores every comment you leave on their own posts.

Others were not convinced that a lack of likes means anything at all. “Geez, some people just don’t do social media,” one wrote. “I know many people who just looky-loo and never participate.” Another was blunter: “Why is that a big deal? People need way too much attention.”

When It Is Jealousy and When It Is Not

Both sides have a point. Plenty of people scroll without ever tapping a heart, and some avoid engaging online for privacy reasons or because they simply do not think about it. A missing like on its own proves nothing.

What makes Lailah’s story different is the pattern. The friend was active, engaged with other people and went silent specifically around Lailah’s good news. That contrast, rather than the silence itself, is what tends to signal something is off. And the real test is usually offline. A friend who celebrates you in person but is quiet online is very different from one who goes cold every time something goes right for you.

Signs a Friend Is Not Really in Your Corner

  • They change the subject when you share good news. Or they quickly turn it back to themselves.
  • Their support is selective. They cheer for everyone else loudly but stay quiet about you.
  • They show up for your bad days, not your good ones. Some people are more comfortable when you are struggling.
  • Compliments come with a catch. Praise that is always followed by a small dig is worth noticing.
  • You feel smaller after seeing them. Pay attention to how you feel, not just to what they say.

What to Do About It

If you recognize a friend in this, start with an honest conversation rather than a conclusion. A simple comment like “I noticed you seem quiet when I share good news, is everything okay between us?” gives them room to explain. Sometimes people are dealing with their own struggles and do not realize how it comes across. If the pattern continues, it is okay to quietly invest more of your energy in the friends who clearly celebrate you.
