Some food trends make you roll your eyes. Others make you hop in the car to see what the fuss is about. A creator named Grubtent did just that with a Little Caesars menu hack that has been all over social media, and he came away with a good score for the food and a complaint about the receipt.

The creator behind Grubtent says he was scrolling Instagram when he saw a girl with a Little Caesars order he had never seen before. Then he saw about 20 more posts about the same thing and wondered whether it was a trend. His opening question: “Is this even worth the hype?” He also offered a reminder that just because something looks good on the internet does not mean it will be good in real life.
What Is the Hack?
He pulled into Little Caesars worried that they might not be able to make it. The hack starts with the chain’s Italian cheese bread. Instead of ordering it plain, people customize it with pepperoni, sausage, bacon, garlic butter and seasoning on top. On the side comes marinara sauce for dipping. As he put it, they are taking something that is normally a side item and turning it into a whole meal.
On camera he insisted, “This is real time right now. This is not fake.” He said the kitchen did not skimp. “Pepperoni, sausage, you name it, they loaded it to the brim. I smelled the butter, I smelled the garlic.”
He also ordered Caesar Wings, Crazy Sauce and a ranch dip. The ranch, he said, did not do much for him, and he prefers another chain’s version. The plain baby wings were small but tender and a bit juicy, and he said the ranch improved them.
The Receipt That Stole the Spotlight
Then came the part that gave the video its sting. He read the receipt out loud:
- Cheese bread: $9.29
- Caesar Wings: $7.99
- Crazy Sauce: $1.10
- Ranch dip: 69 cents
- Subtotal: $19.07
- Grand total: $20.44
Between the subtotal and the grand total, the receipt listed state, county and sales tax lines. “There’s a lot of extra fees on here,” he said. “They got state tax, they got county, and they got another tax… All these extracurricular fees, bro. Y’all trying to make the customers absorb all them fees.”
He also admitted that he had not looked at the receipt until later. “They told me $20, I paid it. Now I’m looking at the receipt.” And he pointed out that the customized cheese bread alone was $9.29 before those charges.
His Verdict: 8.5 Out of 10
Despite the receipt grumbling, he was won over by the food. “I understand why the internet’s going crazy for it. It’s definitely good,” he said. It is not something he would eat all the time, but he would order it over getting their regular pizza. On a scale of 10, he gave it an 8.5, and said he would order it again “for the $9.29 plus the state tax and the other fees.”
His last piece of advice was a fair one: “Just because I like it doesn’t mean you’re going to like it, get your own experience.”
A Quick Word About Those “Fees”
It is worth a small bit of fairness here. On a restaurant receipt, tax lines are generally charges set by state and local governments and collected at the register, not extras the restaurant invents on its own. That said, the creator is right about one thing that many of us have felt at the counter: a meal that sounds like a bargain can land noticeably higher by the time everything is added up.
Tips if You Want to Try It
- Know your order before you get to the counter. Ask politely for the Italian cheese bread with the toppings you want, and have the dipping sauce ready. The creator was not sure whether the location could make it, so be patient and friendly if the staff need a minute.
- Check the receipt before you drive away. He did not look until later. A quick glance at the screen or the paper can help you catch anything that looks off.
- Remember prices vary. What he paid in his area may not match what you see at your location, since menu prices and local tax rates can differ from place to place.
- Do the math on a meal deal. The cheese bread, the wings, the Crazy Sauce and the ranch dip came to $19.07 before the tax lines. If you are feeding a family, compare that with other options on the menu.
- Think about the pizza option. He said he would order the loaded cheese bread over the regular pizza. If you love a classic pie, though, your taste may be different.
The Bottom Line
This is a story with a simple moral. A viral hack can really be as good as the internet says, and still leave you a little surprised when the receipt comes. Grubtent gave the food an 8.5, said the loaded cheese bread was worth another order, and still could not help noticing that his twenty-dollar meal ended up at $20.44.
If you are curious, give it a try, and then judge it for yourself. Just take a peek at that receipt before you head home.
