a group of people sitting around a wooden table

It was just another day at the office for Jenna, a mid-level marketing associate at a fairly large firm. She enjoyed her job, loved her team, and had a solid rapport with her coworkers—well, most of them. One particular coworker had become a thorn in her side: Tom, a senior marketing executive, who was not only married but also notorious for making suggestive comments and crossing professional boundaries.

Initially, Jenna thought he was just being friendly. In the beginning, his compliments seemed harmless, maybe even flattering. “You really nailed that presentation,” or “You look great today!” But soon enough, those friendly remarks escalated into odd comments about her personal life. One day, as they were working together on a project, Tom leaned in a little too close and said, “You know, if you ever need someone to talk to, I’m always here.” It felt less like concern and more like an invitation, and Jenna was uncomfortable.

Every workday became a cycle of awkwardness. Tom would corner her during lunch breaks or casually stroll past her desk, often dropping his usual lines, which felt increasingly inappropriate. Jenna couldn’t shake the feeling that Tom, despite his marital status, saw her as a potential romantic interest. The more he persisted, the more her disdain grew. Having had enough, she decided it was time to do something about Tom’s persistently unwanted advances.

Jenna was all for being professional and addressing the issue directly, but she also couldn’t shake off how unresponsive Tom had been to the boundaries she tried to set. She thought about reporting him to HR, but it felt a bit too serious for what was essentially just annoying flirtation. Instead, she opted for a more subtle form of retribution—something that would get the point across without damaging her own reputation or leading to any official complaints.

That’s when the idea struck her: glitter. She knew from experience how it was practically impossible to get rid of glitter once it clung to something. It was the ultimate petty revenge in her mind. So, during one of Tom’s extended coffee breaks, Jenna quietly gathered her supplies: a small pouch of glitter she had kept for crafting purposes and a small piece of clear tape.

With her heart racing, she meticulously sprinkled a fine layer of glitter onto his office chair and jacket, making sure to get it exactly where it would stick. She was careful to avoid the security cameras, waiting for the perfect moment when no one was around. A few minutes later, Tom returned to his desk, completely unaware of the glittery surprise that awaited him.

The following workday was particularly tense for Jenna; she felt a mix of anticipation and anxiety. She found herself stealing glances across the room at Tom, who seemed blissfully unaware of his glittery fate. It was almost comical to watch him walk around the office, his jacket and chair shimmering with tiny flecks of glitter against the harsh office lighting.

As the day went on, Jenna could see Tom interacting with other coworkers, and more importantly, heading towards the break room filled with people. She could barely contain her laughter as she imagined his wife’s reaction when he came home that evening covered in sparkles. Would he try to brush it off like it was nothing? She chuckled thinking about the moment they would end up having—surely there would be questions.

When evening rolled around, Jenna felt a sigh of relief wash over her. She had done something that, while small and petty, gave her a sense of satisfaction. It was a harmless jab, but it still felt empowering to know she had taken control of the situation in her own way. She hadn’t wanted to be a direct confrontational force; this was more her style—an indirect, playful method of standing up for herself.

As Tom left the office that day, he had no idea what was coming for him. Jenna couldn’t help but think to herself, “Enjoy the glitter, cheater.” And she knew, without a doubt, that someone at home was bound to notice it eventually. Letting the situation fester quietly was no longer an option for her.
