It was a regular Saturday afternoon when Jamie decided to tackle an errand that had been lingering on his to-do list for the better part of the week: restocking the bathroom. Armed with a shopping list and a determined attitude, he made his way to the store. The health food aisle had been an adventure, trying out a new brand of organic crackers that were, to be fair, more cardboard than snack. But as he strolled through the home essentials section, Jamie spotted a familiar sight that filled him with both relief and a bit of confusion—a fresh pack of Cottonelle. Little did he know, this would lead to a rather unexpected revelation.

Jamie reached out and grabbed a multi-pack of Cottonelle toilet paper, the kind that promised comfort and softness, and was it just him, or did the tube feel larger than usual? He paused, eyebrows furrowing in mild suspicion. Had he simply forgotten how hefty it was? He didn’t recall it being this large before. As he hefted the pack and continued shopping, he convinced himself that maybe it was just a slight change in the design. “It’s 2023,” he thought. “Maybe they’re just trying to keep up with these crazy inflation rates.”

After navigating the aisles, he headed home, feeling accomplished. But the mystery of the toilet paper kept nagging at him. As he unloaded his groceries, he couldn’t shake the feeling that he had stumbled upon some sort of toilet paper conspiracy. Was the roll smaller? The tube bigger? The whole experience was giving him a nagging sense of unease akin to settling into a new pair of shoes that felt just a bit off.

He decided to investigate. After setting down the other items, Jamie ripped open the pack, eager to get to the bottom of it. Upon pulling out a roll, he held it up for scrutiny. The tube was indeed larger, but the roll? It looked thin—definitely thinner than he remembered. “What the heck?” he muttered to himself. Was it all in his head? “Did I just get a bad batch?”

Then, as if the universe wanted to add another layer to this mystery, he turned his back and heard a loud “pop.” The sound came from the kitchen where he had left his latest cooking project simmering on the stove. The explosion of flavors he had been perfecting—a creamy white sauce made from milk, parmesan, garlic, fresh lemon, and a splash of banana pepper juice (don’t judge, it’s his own twist)—now seemed trivial in comparison to this bizarre situation with the toilet paper.

“No way,” he groaned, abandoning the toilet paper debate for the time being. Jamie rushed to the kitchen just in time to see his sauce splattered across the counter, the stovetop, and, oddly enough, his favorite cat, Mittens, who was now streaked with remnants of the creamy concoction. The frozen pizzas that had been lying in wait in the freezer suddenly looked a lot duller.

After cleaning up the mess that had ensued in the kitchen, Jamie found himself reflecting on the day’s absurdities. He couldn’t shake the fact that he was now not only questioning the integrity of his beloved Cottonelle but also holding out a plate of slightly burnt frozen pizza. There was no savory garlic sauce to drown this dinner in flavor, and the whole day had devolved from a simple grocery run to an unintended culinary disaster.

He resigned himself to face the dinner catastrophe and decided to take a picture, sharing it with his friends in their group chat, captioning it, “When all you wanted was a normal day.” Little did he know, his friends would find it as entertaining as he found it frustrating. One friend chimed in with a comment about how he should just stick to takeout next time, while another sent a meme of some cartoon character with their pants on fire, joking that at least it wasn’t the sauce that exploded.

In the days that followed, Jamie eventually got used to the new Cottonelle size—or whatever the change was—and chalked it up to retailer trickery. The pizzas still came out of the freezer on occasion, and he even experimented with his white sauce again, albeit with a bit more attention and a whole lot less clutter in the kitchen.

In the end, the whole ordeal became a running joke among his friends, a simple reminder of how one day can spiral into chaos in the most unexpected ways. As for the Cottonelle, its mysteries remained but a quirk of life, blending in alongside messy kitchens and rescue pizzas, where everything just needed a good laugh.
