Creator @missrballer1, whose TikTok profile shows the name Rachel Ballinger, shares a 99 second video with the caption “A year ago today,” followed by a ring emoji, and the line “My heart is still the happiest it could possibly ever be.” The footage is an anniversary look back at an engagement in which both women in the clip proposed, filmed outdoors on a road.

It starts with a cover story. Auto captions show one woman saying she wants to do a TikTok “for the sunsets,” and a text note on the video reads, “I told her I wanted to film a TikTok… but I’m actually going to propose.” The other woman, in a dark hoodie and gray sweatpants, agrees in the captions with a line about how she feels about TikToks (“but yes”), and the exchange ends with “you just follow my lead.” A label near the start reads “Before the sun sets,” and a later text note says “*checks pocket for ring*.”
After the handheld opening, the camera is set down on the road and stays still. A caption about 12 seconds in asks “are we in the middle?” and the auto captions catch a voice saying the recording is on and to hurry into the middle. A close up of the dark hoodie woman’s gray sweatpants carries the note “*checks pocket for ring*,” and a few seconds later the captions have her saying “okay, what are we doing.” The other woman, in a light hoodie and black shorts, walks into position and lowers to one knee. The woman in the dark hoodie reacts with “what are you doing,” then “wait, are you for real?” and covers her mouth. The captions then give her line about the box, “I don’t have the box with me ‘cause I couldn’t keep it.” Together with the pocket note, that is the twist of the video: she had a proposal of her own planned.
Around 47 seconds in, both women are down at ground level facing each other, with captions reading “stand up!” and “no wait.” The words of the first proposal are not in the video. An on screen note over a blurred, black and white shot reads, “The proposal was beautiful, but we’ve chosen to keep those precious words between just us.” What the video does show is the reaction. The caption text reads “crying” and “yes,” the two women embrace, and the woman in the dark hoodie is asked, “are you shaking?” She answers that she has to do it for her partner now, and the captions show “for you now” and “okay.”
Then the roles flip. The woman in the dark hoodie drops to one knee on the same road while the other woman stands in front of her. A second note over the blurred footage says, “I talked for WAY too long but I could have gone forever. I love her so much.” The captions pick up one of them joking that the box was also too big, then “will you marry me,” and “yes yes.” The next captions read “*squeals*” and a burst of laughter, and the clip ends on a hug with the caption “we’re engaged,” said twice. Neither the ring nor the box is shown clearly in the clip, and the women are not named beyond the account holder’s display name.
Two people proposing to each other is part of a larger picture of couples building households together. The U.S. Census Bureau reports about 1.4 million same sex couple households in the United States in 2024, about 836,000 of them married, and says female couple households outnumbered male couple households. The Census Bureau counts households and marriages, so it cannot say how many of those couples got engaged in a moment like this one.
For a reader who wants to film a proposal, the clip shows a workable setup: a camera fixed in place before anyone steps into position, a believable reason to be standing at that spot, and a decision about what stays private. The creator cut the words of the first proposal out with a blurred shot and a note, and shared the rest.
