Vibrant Disneyland Paris parade with iconic Disney mascot characters entertaining the crowd.

In February, a family of six embarked on their annual Disneyland adventure, a tradition that had spanned the better part of 15 years. With a well-planned itinerary, they tackled the park’s various attractions, eagerly anticipating their favorite: Indiana Jones Adventure. After a few hours enjoying the park, they finally reached the ride’s entrance. The queue was long but manageable, with the wait time reassured by the steady movement of the line.

A room filled with lots of cups and saucers

As they made their way through the serpentine queue, the group felt a sense of nostalgia wash over them. They had been here countless times, sharing laughter and creating memories with each visit. Everything was going smoothly until they reached a midpoint in the line where a cast member—let’s call her Alice—decided it was time to open another section of the queue.

Alice called out to the family, instructing them to head towards the new line she was opening. However, at that moment, the family had already traversed past her, and pointing toward their other members ahead, they politely declined her request. “We just need to catch up with our group,” they explained. Alice’s initial reaction was a disapproving huff, but she ultimately let them continue on their way without further comment.

As they reached the new connection point, however, Alice was decidedly more irked. The family could feel the tension. Again, Alice insisted they move to the freshly opened line, and once again, they explained their position. “We’re just trying to catch up with our family,” they reiterated. This time, Alice’s annoyance spilled over, and as they moved past her, she exclaimed loudly, “Ugh! Absolutely ridiculous!” The family exchanged glances, a mixture of surprise and amusement crossing their faces.

They couldn’t help but feel that the situation was a bit peculiar. After all, they had spent years navigating the park’s various attractions, and they were used to cast members helping guests find their way, not creating roadblocks. The family reasoned that it would be more disruptive to turn back now, especially with the group they were trying to meet just ahead. Despite the cast member’s frustrated outburst, they continued through the remainder of the queue without further incident and enjoyed the ride, their spirits remaining high.

After exiting the ride, they spotted Alice again at the entrance. She appeared to be supervising the flow of guests and possibly still fuming about the incident. The family laughed it off, joking among themselves that they had somehow offended a Disney employee. “Do you think we’ll get banned from the park?” one of the brothers quipped. They continued their day, riding other attractions and soaking up the magic of Disneyland, but Alice lingered in the back of their minds.

In hindsight, they recognized that they could have just complied with Alice’s request and taken the new line, but it felt more efficient to proceed as they had. They debated whether or not they should report the encounter, but ultimately, they weren’t sure how to describe it without sounding overly dramatic. Plus, with the dim lighting and all the excitement bustling around, they didn’t get a clear view of Alice’s name badge anyway. Would someone named Alice get unfairly scrutinized because of their experience? That didn’t sit well with them.

The family asked themselves, “Were they the jerks in this situation?” They were simply trying to navigate a long-lasting family tradition. Should they have deviated from their path to accommodate a cast member’s dissatisfaction? While they appreciated Disneyland’s reputation for customer service, they couldn’t shake the feeling that Alice may have been overstepping—an oddity in their years of visiting the park.

As the day wound down, they couldn’t help but reflect on the incident, laughing about how such a small moment could turn into a memorable part of their trip. After all, it added another layer to the already rich tapestry of their Disneyland experiences. The family may never know the backstory of their encounter with Alice, but it would undoubtedly spark conversations for years to come.
