Hey everyone, it’s been a wild ride with my roommate situation. If you’re new here or missed my previous post, a quick recap: let’s call my roommate “Mozart.” She’s 31, and I’m 23. A month ago, she went ahead and scooped up a huge pot of my freshly made spaghetti that I was letting cool, and then she lied about it. The aftermath of that incident was pretty dramatic, but you can catch the whole story in the link at the end.

After the spaghetti incident, things took an interesting turn. Mozart kind of staged a fake move-out. I suspect she’s been crashing at her mom’s place in a neighboring state. She popped in a couple of times since then but didn’t say a word to me, and I didn’t engage either. It felt like a relief really; my other roommates and I adapted our cleaning schedule in light of her absence, and honestly, it’s been a peaceful vibe without her around. Our landlord also got involved, preventing one of our other roommates from signing a lease with a new crew, which is a whole other saga but one I’m glad to avoid.
Fast forward to tonight. A couple of days ago, our other roommate shared the electricity bill in our group chat, and I noticed it was significantly higher than usual. I asked if she could check with the electricity company, considering they’ve made mistakes on our bills before. I was ready to pay my share regardless, but I thought a call was worth it. Mozart then decided to chime in.
She announced in the chat that she wouldn’t be paying for her share of the bill because she hadn’t been around. At first, I ignored her message because, honestly, it doesn’t seem fair that she refuses to contribute when the rest of us have paid our bills even during our absences. I did think it was kind of silly since she doesn’t even have an AC unit in her room, but I shrugged it off. Then, she followed up saying our AC units were making the bill sky-high. This struck me as odd because we’ve been diligent about turning off our units during the day and only keeping them on at night.
So I responded, clarifying that our units aren’t the cause of the high bill. Mozart, however, escalated things by claiming that I “literally just said” the bill was high. At that point, I decided not to engage in this back-and-forth and told her I wasn’t interested in arguing. That’s when she called me “rude and immature.” I couldn’t help but feel she might have been drunk; her messages were riddled with typos. I wanted to keep things calm, so I simply reiterated that I wanted to finish our lease peacefully, and if she didn’t want to pay her share, then that was on her.
Then, out of nowhere, our other roommate tried to step in, urging us to clear the air, but I was done. The chat fell silent for a couple of hours, and I thought that might be it. But then Mozart struck again. She sent a text saying she “hoped I was content since I pushed her out of the apartment and was still bullying her.” I can’t even begin to explain how ridiculous this was. I hadn’t even spoken to her in a month! Who was really bullying whom? I barely had any roommate issues until her arrival, and I was feeling bullied more than anything else.
In the heat of the moment, I snapped back. We exchanged messages, and I ended up telling her to stop spamming the chat. I might not have been polite, but hey, I’m done keeping my mouth shut when someone is clearly off their rocker. With just three more weeks left in this lease, I can hardly wait to be out of this chaotic living situation.
So there you have it. My roommate, who once stole my spaghetti, is now trying to accuse me of being a bully and refusing to pay her share of the utilities. What a character, huh?
