Once upon a time, in a bustling family home, there lived a young man named Jake (24) who had a cousin that had always had a knack for being a bit of a jerk. Jake’s cousin, Michael, was the kind of guy who thought he was above everyone else. He was judgmental, often paranoid about family dynamics, and really didn’t have much regard for how others felt. When Michael moved into Jake’s family home, things stayed mostly uneventful, until he brought his girlfriend, Sarah, into the mix.

Initially, everything seemed fine. Jake and Sarah quickly forged a platonic friendship, enjoying each other’s company in the shared family space. However, as soon as Michael noticed their budding camaraderie, he began to bristle with resentment. It was like watching a cat eye a dog: both suspicious and intensely jealous. On numerous occasions, Michael would storm out of the living room, unable to contain his irritation, while leaving Sarah to figure out what the fuss was about. She would often go after him to talk things out, pointing back at Jake, as if to say, “What did he do now?”

What made this whole situation even more ridiculous was the way Michael handled his grievances. Instead of addressing Jake directly, he would instead vent to Sarah. The moment he felt a twinge of jealousy, his words would fly to her, allowing her to be the messenger of his discontent. This passive-aggressive dynamic only served to exacerbate the tension between the three of them. Jake found it increasingly annoying that he was being talked about, yet never given the courtesy of a direct conversation.

As time went on, Jake decided to take matters into his own hands, and the plan that developed was wonderfully petty. Michael had a notorious affinity for fast-food coupons. Anytime they arrived in the mail, Michael would practically pounce on them, claiming them all for himself. It was like watching a seagull snatch fries out of an unsuspecting child’s hand—annoying and somehow deeply satisfying to see. This habit of hoarding the coupons became one of those quirks that Jake found amusingly irritating.

One day, as the mail came in, Jake had an idea. He started discreetly taking the coupons before Michael could get his hands on them. With every stealthy move, Jake felt a tingle of joy. He stashed the coupons away, handing them over to his best friend, who also found the whole situation hilariously petty. Each coupon was stolen from the pile Michael had been eyeing, and they were subsequently delivered into Jake’s friend’s hands, who would later use them freely without a second thought.

As expected, Michael began to notice that his precious coupons had become fewer and fewer. His irritation boiled over; he couldn’t understand why he wasn’t getting his usual fast-food fix at a fraction of the cost. The complaints reverberated through the home, but of course, he directed them at Sarah. She’d come to Jake with tales of Michael’s angry rants, relaying his frustrations with what he called “an ongoing theft of my happiness.” The irony was not lost on Jake. It was almost comical how Michael, the master controller of the household, was being outsmarted by his own cousin.

Days turned into weeks, and Jake continued his stealth campaign. Michael’s grumbling increased to a boiling point. Their living room became a battleground of sorts, filled with awkward moments where Michael would scowl at Jake from across the room, and Jake would just smirk back, all while Sarah remained blissfully unaware of the rivalry cooking beneath the surface. The tension escalated until Michael and Sarah eventually decided to move out. A weight seemed to lift from the family home the day they packed their things and left.

In the end, Jake felt a sense of satisfaction. While he knew it was just a small act of revenge borne out of annoyance, it was enough to bring a bit of humor back into the household. He had successfully angered his cousin without any direct confrontation, all while keeping his friendship with Sarah intact. Sometimes, the best way to deal with a difficult family member is through good old-fashioned pettiness, one fast-food coupon at a time.
