Status and reward levels are staying put for a third straight year
American Airlines says it will keep AAdvantage elite status requirements and reward redemption levels unchanged for 2026, marking the third consecutive year without a devaluation to how members earn or spend miles. The airline confirmed the freeze in a release from American Airlines Newsroom.
“The AAdvantage program is about more than earning miles — it’s about creating meaningful rewards that reflect the trust our members place in us,” said Scott Long, American’s senior vice president of AAdvantage, in the release.
What’s actually new, even without a devaluation
American isn’t just holding the line — it’s adding perks on top of the frozen thresholds. Starting March 1, 2026, members gained new Loyalty Point Reward options, including Vacations credits worth $250 to $500, along with limited-edition centennial luggage tags for members at every status tier and access to premium retail items through the AAdvantage Exchange marketplace, according to the same release.
Later in 2026, American says it will add inflight food and beverage coupons, New York Times subscription options, and AAdvantage gift cards redeemable at major retailers. The airline is also rolling out free, AT&T-sponsored high-speed Wi-Fi across its narrowbody and regional fleet, a buildout that began in January 2026 and is expanding to more than 2 million flights a year — which American’s release describes as more widely available than any other airline offers.
