Most of us have a vacation story that started with big hopes and ended with a sigh at the cash register. Before you plan your next getaway, it helps to know which famous stops leave some guests feeling let down. A study from FloridaRentals.com, reported by Time Out, looked at TripAdvisor ratings for 230 popular paid attractions across the country. It counted how often guests used phrases such as “not worth it” and “too expensive” in their lower ratings. Keep in mind that these are opinions from a small share of visitors, and many guests enjoy every place on the list. Here are seven attractions near the top, in the order the study ranked them.

1. Space Needle in Seattle
The Space Needle came in first. According to the FloridaRentals.com study as reported by Time Out, 814 of more than 20,000 TripAdvisor ratings called it overpriced, overrated or disappointing, which is a little over 4 percent. Time Out quotes the complaints as “sky-high prices and an underwhelming payoff.”
KPQ, a Washington news site, reports a ticket price of about $35 and says some visitors find the experience more “meh” than marvel. If you are heading to Seattle, it is worth checking current ticket prices before you go and thinking about whether a clear day is guaranteed. Cloud cover can turn a pricey elevator ride into a gray surprise. Many travelers enjoy a stroll around the city’s other attractions for far less money, so you can decide what fits your budget and your energy.
2. Busch Gardens Tampa Bay in Florida
Busch Gardens Tampa Bay ranked second, with nearly 4 percent of ratings flagged by the study. Time Out quotes guests who said it was “expensive,” “not worth it” and had “not much to see.” The family site Road Trips for Families reports that more than 500 guest remarks said it was not worth the price, had little to see or was disappointing.
A separate list from USA Today, as reported by Action News Jax, placed Busch Gardens Tampa Bay at No. 49 on its Most Overpriced ranking. Theme parks can be a joy for grandchildren, and plenty of families return year after year. Still, if you are footing the bill for several people, it may be smart to compare ticket options, look for multi day savings and decide ahead of time which rides and shows matter most so you do not feel rushed or shortchanged.
3. Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia
Colonial Williamsburg, the living history museum in Virginia, took third place. Time Out reports that about 3 percent of visitors in the study felt it costs more than the experience is worth, and Road Trips for Families lists the figure at 2.92 percent.
That is a modest share, and it is worth remembering that history lovers often rave about wandering the old streets. The town itself also earns praise elsewhere. U.S. News and World Report ranked Williamsburg, Virginia, 19th on its Best Small Towns to Visit list for 2026, according to WABI. If you are curious, you might plan a relaxed visit, wear comfortable shoes and choose just the buildings and demonstrations that interest you most. That way you pay for what you will actually enjoy instead of trying to see everything in one tiring day.
4. Graceland in Memphis
Graceland, the Memphis home of Elvis Presley, ranked fourth. Time Out says guests felt the price matched Elvis’s stature, but the experience fell short of what they expected. Road Trips for Families reports that 2,603 TripAdvisor ratings were three stars or lower, including 588 that used tourist trap language, out of roughly 20,556.
For devoted fans, a visit can feel like a pilgrimage, and the study only captures the share of guests who left disappointed. If you are thinking about going, check what the ticket includes, ask yourself which parts of the Elvis story matter most to you, and set your expectations accordingly. A famous name can build up a lot of excitement, and sometimes the real thing feels smaller than the legend. Going with friends who share your love of the music can make the day more fun.
5. Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta
The Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta took fifth place. Time Out says over 600 of roughly 23,000 ratings called it overpriced and disappointing, while Road Trips for Families puts the figure at 610 and the share at 2.55 percent.
That means the large majority of ratings were not in that group. Aquariums can be a delightful outing, especially with little ones, but admission for a whole family adds up quickly. If you plan a trip, consider checking the schedule for less crowded times, since a packed hallway can make any exhibit feel less magical. Bringing a snack and a plan for the exhibits you most want to see can help you feel the visit was worth the cost. As with all of these attractions, your own taste and budget are the best guide.
6. The Island in Pigeon Forge
The Island in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, ranked sixth in the study as listed by Time Out. That report did not spell out the specific complaints, so there is not much to say about why some guests were unhappy.
What we can say is that Pigeon Forge is a very popular stop for families heading to the Smoky Mountains, and busy tourist areas often come with higher prices. A good rule for any entertainment district is to decide on your budget before you arrive. Make a short list of the experiences you truly want, and skip the rest without guilt. Look at the current prices on the official site, and ask friends who visited recently what they thought. A little homework can turn a so-so outing into a happy memory, and it can keep your wallet from feeling lighter than your mood.
7. Biltmore Estate in Asheville
Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, rounded out the list at seventh, according to Time Out. Like The Island, it was listed without detailed reasons in that report, so we cannot say exactly what disappointed the guests who rated it lower.
Being on a list of this kind does not mean a visit is a poor choice. The study measures only the share of low ratings that used words such as overpriced or overrated, and every traveler has different tastes. If a grand historic home is on your wish list, you might check the current admission price, look into what is included and think about visiting at a quieter time of year. Reading a few recent traveler ratings before you buy tickets is a smart habit for any big attraction. The goal is simple, to spend your vacation money on things that truly make you smile.
