Three street tacos topped with chopped cilantro and red onion on a white plate with small dishes of salsa

Two dollars buys very little these days, which is why a new Taco Bell item is turning heads. The chain just rolled out a Crunchadilla nationwide, and a reviewer says it delivers far more than its price suggests.

It is only one of eight fast food items that earned a spot on The Takeout’s October list of hands-down best new menu items.

The picks come from a roundup published October 26 on The Takeout.

The $2 Crunchadilla Made The Trip From Oklahoma City To Every State

The Crunchadilla is half of a Mexican Pizza shell wrapped in a soft flour tortilla. Inside are white-meat chicken, a three-cheese blend and sour cream, plus your choice of jalapeño or sriracha sauce.

Taco Bell tested it in Oklahoma City in late 2025. It launched nationwide on October 15, 2026.

The reviewer praised its flavor and low price, calling it “an incredibly satisfying menu item that costs just $2.”

Wingstop Went Sweet And Sour

Wingstop’s new Sour Patch Kids Wicked Punch flavor is available on bone-in wings, boneless wings, chicken sandwiches and chicken tenders. Club Wingstop members got it first on October 23, and it became official on October 27.

The promotion ends November 5. The writer called it a legitimately tasty addition and described it as a sweet and sour flavor similar to orange chicken.

The flavor was met with skepticism at first, but the verdict was that it works.

Cereal Flavors And Mac And Cheese Take Center Stage

Bojangles brought out a Cinnamon Toast Crunch Iced Coffee and Donut Bites. The coffee is a medium roast cold brew sweetened with sweet cream and cereal-flavored syrup, and both items cost less than $4 each.

Shake Shack added Mac and Cheese Bites for $5.99. They are fried balls of macaroni made with American and cheddar cheese, and they debuted at the end of September alongside the Black Truffle Menu.

The writer said the creamy, almost tangy cheese contrasts well with the fried, crunchy exterior.

Sandwiches That Stand Out

Arby’s Chicken Cheesesteak was released October 12. It features seasoned chicken, American and Cooper cheeses and caramelized onions, and it was chosen as the best of Arby’s recent cheesesteaks because of its simple build.

Whataburger’s Bacon Blaze Chicken Sandwich arrived October 20. It has bacon, jalapeño ranch, jalapeño cream cheese, sliced jalapeños and cheddar cheese. It costs $7.99 for the sandwich alone and $11.99 as a meal.

Popeyes’ Honey Chicken Biscuit is $5 and pairs a buttermilk biscuit with chicken and Sweet Honey Sauce. It debuted at the end of September and was available through October.

A Cake Shake For The Sweet Tooth

Portillo’s Oreo Cake Shake is a variation on the Chocolate Cake Shake. It has a vanilla shake base, crumbled Oreos and a whole piece of the new Oreo Cake blended in.

It debuted on October 6 as a limited-time item, and some fans expect it to end in early November.

How To Hunt Down Limited Time Menu Items

New fast food items arrive and disappear on short schedules. A little planning helps you catch the ones you want.

  • Check the chain’s app. Many items appear there before they reach the menu board.
  • Note the end dates. Wingstop’s flavor ends November 5, and Portillo’s shake may leave early in the month.
  • Call ahead for regional items. Not every restaurant stocks every new product on day one.
  • Eat the item right away. Fried foods lose their crunch quickly in a bag.

Why A Cheap Menu Item Is A Big Deal

The Crunchadilla at $2 shows a chain trying to bring back value for budget-minded customers. Fast food prices have climbed for years, and small items that cost a couple of dollars stand out.

If you plan to try a few of these items, set a budget. A $2 snack, a $5 side and a $12 meal can quickly turn into a $20 outing.

Trying one new item at a time is a fun way to treat yourself without overdoing it. Pick one favorite, and enjoy it.

Make It Special Without Spending More

A drive-thru treat tastes better when you slow down to enjoy it. Eat in the car with the radio on, or take the bag to a park bench for a picnic.

Share an order with a friend or grandchild and trade bites. A shared snack is a good excuse for a short visit.

These new menu items may be here for only a few weeks, but the habit of trying something new now and then is one worth keeping.

What Makes A Menu Item Worth A Special Trip

Not every new item deserves a detour. A good rule is to ask whether it offers something you cannot easily get at home, like a flavor combination or a sauce you would never make yourself.

The Crunchadilla is a good example. It mixes two beloved menu ideas, a crispy pizza shell and a melty quesadilla, for the price of a cup of coffee.

Check how many people you are feeding too. A $2 item makes an easy snack for a grandchild after school, and it will not break the budget if the kids each want one.

Finally, keep an eye on the clock. Most of these items are limited-time offers, so if one looks good, try it in the first couple of weeks.
